HBAA is proud to offer the Residential Construction Skills Certification, designed to prepare the next generation of construction workers. This certification validates an individual’s knowledge and skills of construction principles and practices.
Meeting the Industry Need
This certification verifies an individual has the fundamental competencies necessary to be a productive worker on a residential construction job site. Those who earn the certification are more qualified and prepared to enter high-demand roles within the construction industry. Additionally, the certification allows employers to identify and connect with more skilled candidates, filling gaps in the labor market and jump-starting an individuals’ career.
Industry Standards
The certification exam consists of 100 questions and assesses knowledge and skills from the following weighted industry standards:
- Building Trades
- Health & Safety
- Building Components
Why We Created This Certification
Our industry is currently experiencing a shortage of trained workers, and this certification will help individuals validate their skills and create a better pool of employees. It will also help employers identify qualified candidates.
Representing over 7,500 members in the homebuilding community, the HBAA is the voice of the residential construction industry in the state of Alabama. We worked with our members on the knowledge and skills they are looking for in a potential employee. We used that information to develop this certification. This certification is developed by the industry for the industry.
This certification evaluates an individual’s knowledge of the fundamental residential construction skills necessary on a job site.

Testing Platform
HBAA utilizes iCEV, a division of CEV Multimedia, as the certification testing platform. As the testing platform, iCEV fulfills the following responsibilities:
- Provides secure testing technology for certification exams
- Regulates testing environment
- Works with secondary and post-secondary academic institutions, workforce development associations and the public-at-large to offer certification options for career advancement
- Provides certification verification to employers for potential job applicants
- Offers optional study-guide material
